We were already in San Clemente, when our long time friend
Igor Lumertz, a big rider from our home break in Brazil and who lived in Hawaii for 10 years and now lives in Oceanside, California called us to say he had enrolled Makaha and Kalani in their 1st Surf Contest: Volcom Surf Contest at Oceanside Harbor, California.
So, there we went again to Oceanside for Makaha and Kalani's 1st Surf Contest!
The day of the event was a rainy and cold winter's day in California. But it was so excited! Makaha was the first one to get into the water on the second heat at the quarterfinals of the Squids division (10 years and under). Kalani was on the third heat.
Kalani finished the quarterfinals in 4th place and Makaha in 6th place. Their scores weren't enough to go on to the semi-finals, even though we all celebrate this epic moment of their lives! And very especial for Mom and Dad too!
In the final California Ranking, from 135 competitors in the Squids division, Makaha is now in 99th place with 185 points and Kalani in 67th with 387 points.
